FAQs

What is the primary use for TIMco Z Clips?

The primary use is for attaching trellis or timber fence panels securely to fence posts.

What size screws should I use with these Z Clips?

The recommended screw diameter is 4.0mm.

Are these suitable for coastal environments?

These clips have a Corrosion Rating 3, suitable for urban and industrial areas with a low salt atmosphere. They are not specifically recommended for direct coastal exposure without additional protection.

What material are the Z Clips made from?

They are made from carbon steel.

What is the finish on the Z Clips?

The finish is galvanised.

How many screw holes does each Z Clip have?

Each Z Clip has 4 screw holes.

What are the dimensions of a single Z Clip?

The dimensions are 60mm in length, 56mm in width, and 15mm in thickness.

Troubleshooting

Panel feels loose after installation.

Ensure the correct screw diameter (4.0mm recommended) is used and that screws are fully tightened. Check that the Z Clip is securely fastened to both the post and the panel, and consider adding an additional clip if the panel is particularly large or heavy.

Z Clip appears to be rusting.

The Corrosion Rating 3 is suitable for urban/industrial areas with low salt. If used in a coastal or highly corrosive environment, the galvanisation may be compromised. Consider using stainless steel fixings or applying a protective coating if rust becomes a concern.

Difficulty aligning Z Clip with post and panel.

Adjust the position of the panel or post slightly before fixing. Pre-drilling pilot holes in timber can make screw insertion easier and improve alignment.

Pros and Cons

Pros

  • Provides a strong and reliable fix for fence panels and trellis.
  • Galvanised finish offers good protection against rust in relevant environments.
  • Durable carbon steel construction ensures longevity.
  • Designed for easy installation with standard screws.

Cons

  • Requires specific screw sizes for optimal performance (4.0mm recommended).
  • Corrosion resistance is rated for specific environments; may require additional protection in coastal areas.
  • Primarily designed for wood-to-post applications, may not suit other materials.

Setup, Compatibility & Care

Setup:

  1. Position the fence panel or trellis against the fence post where it needs to be secured.
  2. Align the TIMco Z Clip with the desired fixing point, ensuring it bridges the gap between the post and the panel.
  3. Using screws with a recommended diameter of 4.0mm, drive them through the four holes of the Z Clip to securely fasten it to both the post and the panel.
  4. Repeat for additional fixing points as needed for stability.

Compatibility:

  • Material: Best suited for attaching timber fence panels or trellis to wooden posts.
  • Environment: Designed for urban and industrial areas with a low salt atmosphere (Corrosion Rating 3).
  • Fasteners: Recommended screw diameter is 4.0mm. Ensure screw length is appropriate for the combined thickness of the clip and the materials being joined.

Care:

  • While galvanised, regular inspection for damage or excessive corrosion is advised, especially if used in harsher conditions than recommended.
  • Clean with a damp cloth if dirt or debris accumulates.
  • Avoid abrasive cleaners that could damage the galvanised finish.
