Product Information

Full details

The OKODOKO 400mm Water Pump Pliers are designed for professional plumbers, mechanics, and serious DIY enthusiasts who require maximum leverage for demanding tasks. These heavy-duty pliers provide an exceptional grip on large pipes, nuts, and fittings thanks to their extended 16-inch frame and hardened steel construction, though their large size can be unwieldy for working in tight, confined spaces.

FAQs

Can these pliers be used on delicate nuts?

While they provide great grip, the serrated teeth may mar or scratch finished surfaces. Use a cloth between the jaws to protect the workpiece.

What is the maximum jaw opening?

The tongue and groove system allows the jaws to open wide enough to handle a variety of large diameter pipes and fittings typical for a 400mm tool.

Are the handles insulated for electrical work?

No, these are standard plumbing and mechanical pliers and are not insulated for electrical safety.

Does the length make it hard to use?

It is larger than standard pliers, making it best for high-torque applications rather than precision work in tight quarters.

Should I oil the adjustment mechanism?

Yes, periodic lubrication will keep the sliding joint operating smoothly.

Troubleshooting

Adjustment mechanism feels stiff or stuck

Clean any dirt or grime from the tongue and groove channels and apply a small amount of lubricant.

Tool slips on the pipe surface

Ensure the serrated teeth are fully engaged and that you have adjusted the pliers to the closest possible jaw setting for the workpiece diameter.

Surface rust appearing on the jaws

Scrub the affected area with a wire brush, wipe clean, and apply a thin protective layer of anti-corrosion oil.

Pros and Cons

Pros

Excellent leverage for heavy-duty plumbing jobs
Durable hardened steel construction
Quick and secure jaw adjustments
Safety features included to prevent hand pinching
Aggressive serrated teeth for maximum grip

Cons

Large size can be difficult to use in cramped areas
Heavy weight compared to smaller pliers
May be overkill for light-duty domestic repairs

Setup, Compatibility & Care

These pliers are ready to use immediately out of the package. To maintain the tool in optimal condition, wipe the jaws clean after each use to remove debris or pipe residue. Periodically apply a light coating of machine oil to the tongue and groove joint to ensure the sliding mechanism remains smooth and rust-free. Store in a dry environment to prevent corrosion of the high-carbon steel components. Always ensure the pliers are adjusted to the correct size before applying force to prevent the tool from jumping off the workpiece.
