Ninja has launched its smallest Luxe Café espresso machine yet, and the internet has taken notice. This is where the “lowest price point ever” pitch needs unpacking. Ninja is correct that the Mini Plus sits below the Luxe Café range’s RRP ceiling, and Ideal Home’s Molly Cleary makes a fair point that the feature set for under £500 is rare in this category. Bean-to-cup grinding plus a manual shot pull plus an automatic frother with plant-based milk support is a strong combination at any size.

But here is the complication. The full-size machine is bigger, yes, but it is also cheaper today and available from 18 competing retailers, which means its price has more downward pressure on it.
